Doreen Mateer McMurry, age 84, passed away November 18, 2025, at St Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana.
Born on July 1st, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she put herself through Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio where she majored in biology and worked in research roles in various labs on the East Coast.
She met Fred McMurry at Antioch College, and they married in 1965 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, celebrating their 60-year anniversary. Doreen earned a master’s degree from Temple University.
She was an active partner in the family McMurry Cattle operation in Huntley, Montana – a truly remarkable woman who was kind, generous, dependable, resilient, and fiercely independent.
