Keith Fletcher, 66, of Wells, ME, passed away on July 2, 2024. He was a kind, passionate, and creative man devoted to family, land conservation, and music.

Born September 6, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Earl C. Fletcher Jr. and Anne (Brady) Fletcher, Keith attended Antioch College in Ohio, earning a BS in 1980. There he met Lisa Murphy backstage during a collegiate performance of Chekov’s Three Sisters, where he played a wandering minstrel.

Keith built a career in land conservation, earning an MS from Johns Hopkins University in 1991. His work spanned the Delaware River region, Iowa prairies, and Maine’s woods and coastline. Most recently, he worked with Maine Coast Heritage Trust preserving Maine’s coast and served 23 years on the Wells Conservation Commission.

A skilled fiddle player, Keith could perform joyous or somber pieces and composed his own tunes, including songs for his children. He taught violin at TuneTown in Wells and performed regularly at charity events, schools, and local pubs.

Keith is survived by his wife Lisa Murphy; children Alexander and Samuel Fletcher; daughter-in-law Dhara Fletcher; sister Deb Nelson; and seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and twin brother Earl “Kip” Fletcher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested contributions to Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
