Peggy Ann Erskine passed away at Hospice of Dayton on Sunday, October 27, 2024, while actively involved in volunteer work planning.
Born November 12, 1937, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Frances Rich George and Walter Alexander George Jr., Peggy moved to Yellow Springs to attend Antioch College, where she met and married David Roy Erskine. The couple remained married for 62 years until his death in 2020.
Peggy held diverse professional roles throughout her life. She worked with the Anthropology Research Project before pausing her career when her daughter Ann was born in 1965. She later pursued nursing, graduating in 1975, and worked at Community Hospital in Springfield. From 1982 to 1994, she served as administrative director of The Antioch School, which she described as her favorite position. She later directed alumni relations at Antioch College from 1996 to 2000.
In retirement, Peggy and David traveled extensively, visiting 48 states and all but one Canadian province, including a 500-mile canoe journey in the Northwest Territories. Peggy devoted significant energy to community organizations, including leadership roles with the Yellow Springs Historical Society, James A. McKee Association, Yellow Springs Tree Committee, and Antioch alumni projects.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Ann Erskine Zumwalt, grandchildren Lindsay and John David Zumwalt, siblings Kathy George Horner and Walter Alexander George III, and several nieces and nephews.
